Can you drink alcohol while taking DayQuil?

Not a good idea. Vicks DayQuil Cold & Flu liquid contains, per 15 mL, acetaminophen 325 mg (pain and fever), dextromethorphan 10 mg (cough) and phenylephrine 5 mg (decongestant). Two of these matter with alcohol:

• Acetaminophen and your liver. The Drug Facts label says severe liver damage may occur if an adult takes more than 4 doses (30 mL each) in 24 hours, takes it with other acetaminophen products, or has 3 or more alcoholic drinks every day while using this product.
• Dextromethorphan. The NIAAA lists it among medicines that, with alcohol, cause drowsiness, dizziness and an increased risk of overdose.

How long after DayQuil can you drink alcohol?

The label gives no waiting time for alcohol. Adults take 30 mL every 4 hours, no more than 4 doses in 24 hours, and the NIAAA warns that alcohol and medicines can interact even when they are not taken at the same time.
