Does Rubbing Alcohol Kill Spiders ?
Rubbing alcohol is not a recommended way to deal with spiders. University of California pest experts (UC IPM) say the best control is regular vacuuming or sweeping, sealing cracks and keeping screens tight, and that sprays are only temporary; crushing a spider or vacuuming it up is just as easy and much less toxic. Rubbing alcohol is also flammable: the EPA warns it has caused house fires when people sprayed it on pests indoors.

We found no official pest-control guidance that recommends rubbing alcohol for spiders. A spider soaked in it may die, but spraying alcohol around the house is not a good plan:
- Fire risk: the EPA warns that rubbing alcohol vaporizes quickly, is flammable and has caused numerous house fires when people used it against bed bugs.
- It does not prevent new spiders: UC IPM says spraying is only temporary unless it comes with housekeeping.
What works against spiders (UC IPM)
- Vacuum or sweep regularly in windows, room corners, storage areas and basements; it removes spiders and webs, and spiders rarely survive the trip through the hose.
- Seal cracks in the foundation and around windows and doors, and keep screens tight.
- Crush or vacuum a single spider: UC IPM says this is just as easy and much less toxic than spraying.
- Sticky traps are a non-insecticide way to catch spiders, placed out of reach of children and pets.
