What is the Recommended Time to Wait Before Drinking Alcohol After Rhinoplasty?
We found no official source that gives a set number of days. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recovery page does not address alcohol, and says to ask your surgeon about medications and activity. Follow your surgeon's written instructions, and never mix alcohol with prescribed pain pills.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recovery page says initial swelling subsides within a few weeks, but it may take up to a year for the nose to refine. It says swelling may come and go and be worse in the morning during the first year. It lists medications to aid healing and reduce infection risk, to be prescribed by your surgeon. It does not address alcohol.
Why your medicines matter more than a date
NIAAA lists opioid pain medicines, including Percocet and Vicodin, as causing drowsiness, dizziness, increased overdose risk and slowed breathing when mixed with alcohol. It lists ibuprofen, naproxen and aspirin with stomach upset, bleeding and ulcers, and acetaminophen with liver damage. Those reactions are the documented reason to ask your pharmacist before a drink while you take any of them.
What to do
- Ask your surgeon for a written answer on alcohol and on which medicines you must avoid.
- Do not drink while taking opioids or sedatives.
- Ask when you may resume normal activity, since the ASPS page suggests that question.
