Can You Drink Alcohol With Dentures?
We found no official dental source that says dentures and alcohol cannot mix. NIDCR (NIH) says alcohol dries out the mouth, which can matter for denture wearers, and the ADA's MouthHealthy page gives daily cleaning steps. Ask your dentist about your own dentures, adhesive and any mouthwash you use.

We use your email only for this download. What we could confirm
We checked the ADA’s MouthHealthy denture page, the NIDCR dry mouth page and the CDC adult oral health page. None of them says you must avoid alcohol because you wear dentures.
NIDCR, part of the National Institutes of Health, lists “Not using tobacco or alcohol” among its tips for dry mouth and says they dry out the mouth. If your mouth is dry, dentures may feel less comfortable. That is the only alcohol link we found on an official page, and it does not mention dentures by name.
Denture care that still applies
- Rinse dentures to remove loose food, then brush them every day with a soft brush and a non-abrasive cleanser.
- Brush your gums, cheeks, tongue and the roof of your mouth.
- When dentures are not in, keep them covered in water so they do not warp.
- If you use adhesive, follow the product directions.
These steps come from the ADA’s MouthHealthy page.
What we did not find
We found no official statement on whether alcohol loosens adhesive, stains dentures or harms the denture material. We will not guess. If you notice sore spots, a dry mouth or a loose fit after drinking, ask your dentist. For how much alcohol is in a drink, see the standard drink calculator.
